I mentioned last week that I want to get back in shape. Desires and plans are all well and good, but it’s the follow-through that counts.
So this morning Andy and I went to the nearby track and walked/jogged a few laps. Β It was kind of spur-of-the-moment; we didn’t even leave the house until around 9 AM. I do recall liking the earlier mornings, when Kingston is just waking up and the sky is doing some pretty marvelous things.
Exercising regularly makes such a difference for me in terms of mood regulation, energy, and decreased anxiety. Right away, I feel more vibrant and full of possibility. Yay for self-motivation!
[Note: these photos are from an early morning jog last August, back when I was at the track semi-regularly.]
Do you have a tried-and-true way to motivate yourself to exercise? What’s your favorite physical activity? Give me some ideas!

Thanks Joan!
I wrote on exercise as we’ll. π a little different slant.
I love your slant! π
Yes, get into a routine!! I feel WORLDS better if I went to the gym that morning. All day, I’ll say to myself, you went this morning, it was dark, it was before 5 am, but you got out of bed and did it. It helps if you start actually seeing improvements but just knowing you have it in you to start is a great motivator. On days I go to the gym, I treat myself to a coffee from DD…that’s my reward π
We’re trying over here, we’re trying! Although that before 5 am part is so insane. The getting up when it’s still dark…! That alone is reason to pat yourself on the back!
And oh my lord yes, I cannot wait until I start seeing improvements.
Beautiful pictures, loved seeing the older couple hold hands while walking. So sweet!

I know, aren’t they adorable? π
That photo of the older couple is so sweet! Put a smile on my face π I need to start exercising more, I feel so much better afterwards.. better mood and more energy even though I used a ton of energy working out. Thanks for the motivation!

I love it, too! Andy seems to have a knack for catching stuff like that- when we were in Brooklyn recently, he snapped a guy down on his knee, proposing! It was the sweetest thing.
I love to run. My motivation is the clarity it offers. When I do run, I am able to write with a renewed appreciation.
You’re right Rudri, running brings a peace of mind and the ability to think clearer for sure.
Lookin good! Nice motivation too!
Thanks, Peggy!
Right now, we don’t have the time we would like to exercise individually – speaking for my husband and myself here. Between his and my work schedule, and the two Littles at home with me. So, we exercise as a family! When my husband comes home from work, we put the kids in the jogger/strollers and take a long walk/run. I also take my 3 year old to the park and run him silly, while Abigail is in the baby carrier…that works up a sweat!! Because it took me a while to heal after giving birth this time around, I was holding off exercise longer than usual – but now, given the okay and the spring weather; getting back into shape and being able to keep up with the kids is all the motivation I need! π Hope you can hit the track regularly and start feeling the endorphins kick up your overall mood!
Exercise is so important. I walked 5 miles today and I’m doing a further 7-8 tomorrow!
