These guys were so enthusiastic and funny!
A bed race!?

I love when streets are closed off for events 🙂
The race consisted of five teams, with five people each: four people to push the bed, one to sit on top and enjoy the ride. The excited audience members gathered on the sidewalks, cameras in hand, and craned necks as the beds zoomed past, stopping at one end for zany antics like egg tosses and Chinese fire drills, before turning around and running to the finish line.

Racing beds is one thing. Superheroes before Halloween is another. But putting them together?? Golden!

I’m thinking he should’ve taken a cue from the Misfits and worn knee pads…

Coordination *and* style! Maybe I’ll start going to all their events and their finesse will rub off on me?

Earl Pardini and the Slide Mountain String Band: perfect music to square dance to.

I appreciate a large, soft and chewy cookie 🙂
Andy and I brought along some Banana Moon Baking Company cookies to snack on. These cookies are scrumptious! I’m excited to do a feature on Banana Moon, coming soon on the blog.

Cookies are the perfect accompaniment to race watching, don’t you think?

Such beautiful photos. I have trouble with the northern hemisphere thing too. The loss of light is very hard for me, as a photographer and also – because it’s just very hard!
I have yet to see a bed race although I saw some pretty wacky parades when I lived in San Francisco. What’s made me happy lately? The start of fall/festival season here in New England. A new lens. An occasional iced latte with extra whipped cream. Blogging.

Yes, Tamara, the constant grayness is one of the worst parts about winter for me :\ San Francisco is a great place for interesting events!
Fall festivals in New England…sounds pretty perfect to me. Thanks for stopping by 🙂
That looks amazingly fun! I love the woman in the batgirl costume!
It was! The costumes just added to the whole festive feel!
That bed race looks like a total blast! It also looks like an event that would happen in San Francisco. I love it when people get out there and just let loose and have fun! It’s a great reminder to us all that we need to get out and play and laugh more. Ok, those dark chocolate chipotle cookies look so good! My hubby loves anything with chipotle in it, so I need to get that recipe. 🙂
I love it too, Jackie- the letting loose with all these funny events is one thing I’m really appreciating about this area lately. Those cookies *are* so good, I promise! I’ll have more info on them coming soon 🙂
YES, I thin I’d like that recipe, too! The bed race looks like it was a real “hoot” and made for lots of smiles too. I am on the search for some healthy cookie recipes, at least lower fat and sugar, if you know of any, please tell me!
Good to keep up with the fun going on in the Hudson Valley, too!
Don’t think I can give out the recipe, Mom, but perhaps there will be some real life samples I can give you 🙂 There are so many healthy baking blogs out there with cookie recipes for you…of course I can’t think of any off the top of my head, but I’ll get back to you on that one!
Great recap of the bed race! It is one of those events I always seem to miss out on. What a riot though! I love Saugerties! I’m just the opposite with season preference. I really like the winters in the Hudson Valley when we get a ton of snow. I feel more anxious in the Summer though I do love getting out in the sun.
Thanks, Vanessa. We almost didn’t get to the race, but my husband and I said ‘It’ll definitely be fun/we’ll get some good pictures’, and it was sort of perfect because we left before the rain started 🙂
Snow is pretty, and I love the coziness of bundling up with scarves and sweaters, but I’m a very nervous wintertime driver, and I get pretty bad seasonal affective disorder. Talking about it more and more helps, though. Thanks for stopping by!
That looks like so much fun!
It really was- even more fun since we left before the rain started!
It looks like you had an awesome weekend! How ridiculous and fun! 🙂

So ridiculous in the best way possible, Nikki 🙂
That race looks like a lot of fun and just good times! And those cookies look delicious!!!

It’s funny, we almost didn’t go, but then we were like, ‘we’ll probably get some good pictures out of it…’ haha 🙂
What a brilliant parade! I love it! You live in a cool town. I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer days. You still have some left!
Happiness for me is equal to love. If I have love, happiness is there.
Carmen
Thanks! You’re right, there is still a bit of summer left. We’ve especially been loving the weather lately!
