A bed race!?The Saugerties Bed Race was a spectacle, to say the least. Andy and I only found out about Old Timer’s Day, and its highlight event, the Bed Race, a few days prior to it happening. How could we pass such ridiculousness up?
The race consisted of five teams, with five people each: four people to push the bed, one to sit on top and enjoy the ride. The excited audience members gathered on the sidewalks, cameras in hand, and craned necks as the beds zoomed past, stopping at one end for zany antics like egg tosses and Chinese fire drills, before turning around and running to the finish line. With two beds racing at a time, there were bound to be some mishaps and stumbles: Also on hand at the Bed Race? The Mid Hudson Misfits Roller Derby! I so wish I had the coordination to join these women. And you can’t have a fun town event without some live music! Know what else made this day even more awesome? Dark chocolate chipotle cookies!
Andy and I brought along some Banana Moon Baking Company cookies to snack on. These cookies are scrumptious! I’m excited to do a feature on Banana Moon, coming soon on the blog.I’m happy that I can now say I’ve seen my first bed race 🙂
