There are so many things to appreciate about our new city. We’ve been here two weeks and are still painting everything and trying to find things like coffee mugs, but things are slowly coming together. A huge plus? We’ve socialized with friends almost every day!
Moving within walking distance to our friends has made such a huge difference. In Kingston, we were huge homebodies, we didn’t have any close friends, and it took at least ten minutes to walk anywhere worthwhile. Here, we walk across the street to the farmer’s market, we can several blocks to the riverfront, we can walk to a bar or any number of restaurants or the library or a bookstore. I know that this means great things, especially for the upcoming fall and winter, when I tend to hibernate.
Here are some Hudson highlights I have snapped so far:
On another note, I’ve already felt the change to less daylight each day. I feel as though I’m in a transitional place, both waiting for and trying to make things happen here. Starting over for me means both anxiety and anticipation, and I’m very much in a one day at a time frame of mind. Also, in this space of stressful move + accepting the seasonal depression as it sweeps over when it chooses, being gentle with myself is super important.
Off to take a nice walk and maybe use my new library card. Hope all is well with you, friends.
Beautiful! I have experienced some of the same feelings when we moved, really cannot grasp that it’s already nine months ago! I appreciate your sharing, and can tell you that getting involved, both in exercise classes and our library adult reading program (and more activities to come) really does help one feel more settled, i.e. at home. Of course, having a few friends visit or actually be nearby is a wonderful blessing. The more I try out new things, the more potential friends I have been meeting. Thank you for sharing your feelings, and the beautiful pictures of your new ‘home sweet home’ town!
Can’t thank you and Dad enough for helping us move in! 🙂
Oh, how lovely. I remember that when I lived in San Francisco, fall and winter were better for me. It wasn’t just the warmer weather then, it was because I could go for a brisk walk in a popular city. I also tend to hibernate!
I’ve noticed the less sunlight too. And these cool nights, when nights are usually still sweltering is weird. I don’t think it’s even fall yet. Just a weird late summer.

The cool weather has been strange- but high 80s forecasted this week! So flip-floppy, Mother Nature.
Great pics! Looks so lovely there! Glad you guys are loving it!
Thank you, Carolann! It’s so nice to live somewhere that feels like it’s thriving and full of activity.
So glad that your move is going pretty well for you. Looks like you’ve found a great neighborhood with the river and all that. Sooo lovely!
Thanks, Rea. It’s been a bit of an adjustment, but overall the pros outweigh the cons. The riverfront is especially nice early in the morning when everything is still foggy and quiet 🙂
