Burger Hill in Rhinebeck, Tuesday night
I realize that last week’s Friday Gratitude post was unconventionally short. I apologize! Here’s a good one to make up for my brevity 🙂
Friday Gratitude: 10 Thing I’m Loving This Week
1. Swimming goggles! Can I tell you how much of a difference these babies have made in my swimming experience? I wear contact lenses, and  I’m always scared/paranoid of losing them in the water (my mom claims she’s never had a problem- maybe it’s the brand I use??). Often, when lots of splashing or waterfalls are involved, there will be a few minutes where I’m all ‘wait…where did my lens go…’ and a mini freak-out ensues. No longer, my friends! These goggles (seen toward the bottom of this post) suction tightly to my face so there’s no worry whatsoever of losing my contacts, plus helloooo, I can see underwater now! So cool! Also, UV-protected orange tint? Yay! 🙂
2. Ladies Night! Three friends + dinner at an old favorite restaurant + enjoying the sunset at an old favorite hilltop stop. Yes yes yes.

Gooseberry mojitos!

Ohmygoodness it was a beautiful evening.
3. Smitten Kitchen breakfast recipes! I made am ambitious-but-delicious baked ranchero egg dish from The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook on Sunday, which I’m glad to say was well received at our family brunch. Then on Monday and Tuesday, I made her huevos rancheros recipe, pictured below, which was quick and easy and an instant hit in the Milford household! That woman knows how to do breakfast 🙂

Fresh cilantro, salsa fresca, crispy cheesy tortilla, fried egg, and black beans. Don’t forget to squeeze lime juice on top!
4. Deer, rabbits, turtles, snakes, chipmunks, birds, squirrels, groundhogs. All of these live around our yard: some come and go, others are around all the time. Basically, picture Snow White when she’s dancing in the woods with the animals (luckily, we haven’t seen any evidence of these critters in our garden yet!)

Two of the fawns, almost a month ago. Cute, cute, cute.
5. Amy Poehler. Of course she’s hilarious, and her comedy is what she’s known for, but she’s also a noteworthy role model for women & young girls. Check out her awesome movement & online network, Smart Girls at the Party. Then, watch this video:
6. More laughter than tears. Need I say more?
7. These beauties, freshly picked:

Yellow summer squash and cucumber. It’s fun making dinners out of what’s ripest!
8. Artist friends! Our friend Ezerd has her fabulous robot paintings up for adoption (or sale, whichever term you prefer ;)) at Barista’s Cafe in Hudson Valley Mall, and I wish I had more wall space upon which to hang these adorable creatures. Take a look at her Etsy shop and just try to not fall in love with her art!

Every piece has a description with each robot’s quirks and interests. I love it!
9. Getting out and being social in spite of my anxiety. This is a drastic improvement over the winter, and even the spring. It feels good to not just hang out with friends again, but to speak up about my needs and comfort levels. (Deep breaths, always)
10. This month! I am loving July, and summer overall. I know it’s hot- as uncomfortable as we may be sometimes in bed with the windows open and our not-so-powerful fan, I love these days and nights. I love the drinkable early morning air and gentler evenings. I love not needing to bundle up to go outdoors. I love going swimming, I love the bounty of fruits and vegetables, I love summer thunderstorms and breathtaking sunsets. And so many good things are happening in July.

Oh, did I mention there are wild strawberries and raspberries right on our street??

What are you grateful for this week? What are you particularly loving? Do you have any great recipes to share? I want to hear it all!
Love to everyone and have a wonderful weekend.
[Thanks to Andy Milford for the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth photos in this post.]

Happy to share!
Saying hi, glad to see your post today, and those foods are delicious, I can attest to that! Those raspberries look amazing, too…there aren’t any ready yet in Maine, at least in our yard.. Enjoy and have fun swimming and keeping cool.
Hi, thanks Mom! I think it’s fun to go up to Maine and experience a delay in the seasons/fruit ripening, etc- it’s like it happens twice for you guys. You guys keep cool, too!
All good things! That mojito looks like the perfect Summer drink!
Stopping by from SITS.
Hey, Jen, thanks so much for stopping by! Mojitos are perfect right now 🙂
Great pics! Gooseberry Mojitos…YUM…that sounds really good. It is nice to actually spell out what you are thankful for…it makes us appreciate it even more. We just started a new tradition in our home, The Happiness Jar… you can read about it here: http://lifewithlorelai.wordpress.com/2013/07/10/our-little-happiness-jar/

Thanks Lorelai- I’ve found that putting together these gratitude posts actually puts me in a better mood. Thanks for linking to the Happiness Jar post!
Those mojitos look pretty spectacular!
Yup, they’re super tasty 🙂
I actually have an upcoming about how I’ve been working a lot and getting out with friends – both things I can’t do sometimes because of anxiety. I’m definitely grateful for that. And Smitten Kitchen breakfast?! Unreal.

Sounds like we’re in the same boat! I feel like my anxiety has been such a huge deterrent to maintaining close friendships in the past year and I hate it.
Smitten Kitchen breakfasts are so tasty!
Swimming googles have been a life saver in my recent swimming mini career, so I would have to agree! 🙂
Yay! And isn’t it so cool being able to see all the rocks or little fish when you’re in clear water?
I’ve been loving the zucchini and summer squash (and cucumbers and beets) from the garden – my sister’s garden, in my case – lately, too.
I never used swimming goggles as a kid. WHY?!?! They’re awesome. My kids consider them an absolute necessity.
I really like Amy Pohler, so I’ll check out that link.
I don’t know why I never used swimming goggles as a kid, either!
Gooseberry mojitos, yum! How original. I’m sorry but I need to make me some of those huevos rancheros, they look amazing and something I would love for lunch or dinner. I’m more of a steel cut or cereal girl in the morning. I really get excited seeing deer as well. They’re all over the place out here and I could just stare and watch them all day. They’re so peaceful and beautiful.
I’m grateful that for our family day on Friday. We took the kids and biked up Mt. Tam which is 2,300 feet. The kids did amazing and we had such a great day being in nature. We’re heading to Healdsburg tomorrow to go SUP and kayaking down the Russian River. I just love summer and the ease and flexibility of it all. I feel like life in the summer is all about play and freedom! Have a great Sunday girl! xoxo, Jackie
Deer *are* so peaceful and beautiful- I have never understood how people can kill them for sport.
Your family day sounds great! I hiked Mt. Tam when I was out in CA last month and it’s gorgeous!
And this sums up my feelings, too: “I just love summer and the ease and flexibility of it all. I feel like life in the summer is all about play and freedom!” 🙂
That robot art work is so cute! I am a sucker for robots. I definitely have the urge to go to a museum or art shop now!
Hi Sabrina! I know, those robots are adorable. Glad I gave you the urge for some art!
Christy your pictures are so gorgeous! I really like this Friday series. It’s a lot of happy in one post. I didn’t know about Amy Poehler’s online network. I loved her in that video you posted.

Thank you Stevie! I’ve certainly learned a lot about photography from Andy. I’m glad you like the series, too- it’s such a nice practice and it’s especially nice when I don’t have to think too hard about what to be grateful for.
