Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens - Sweet and Savoring

One of my favorite days on our last trip to Boothbay, Maine was when we visited Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. I’m not a botanical gardens or horticulture expert by any means, but if you’re into any of those two things, then this place should be on your Maine itinerary for sure.

Andy and I finally visited the gardens in July 2012 after three previous trips to Maine together and the beauty blew us away. We couldn’t have known how much we would enjoy our afternoon there. This place is a delight!

We wandered around the perennial garden, the Children’s Garden, the meditation garden, and the Garden of the Five Senses, among others. The whole park is large enough that it’s possible to find some quiet space even on crowded summer days. In fact, I’m looking forward to our next trip to Maine this year so we can spend more time there and cover the areas we didn’t get to.

Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is open all year long; Christmas and Thanksgiving are the only days it’s closed. It is located about an hour northeast of Portland and ten miles south of Route 1 on 250 gorgeous acres of land. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Look for more on Maine’s Boothbay region in future posts!

Christy, this place looks great. Your photography is spectacular! The detail is amazing! What kind of camera do you use? I don’t have a green thumb, but I love flowers. Thanks for the tip. We’re always looking for new places to explore. Boothbay is not too far away. 🙂

Thank you so much, Kelly! The camera was a Canon G10- I loved it for the detail, richness of color…so many great features. The lens broke, though, so now I’m about to buy a G12 to replace it.
I don’t have much of a green thumb, either- I leave that to Andy.
Yes, let me know if you get to Boothbay! My parents have a rental house there 🙂

I might be biased because I’ve spent so much time there on account of my parents’ love of Maine 😉 but you should definitely go!

That looks like paradise!!! I love camping in Acadia and I usually breeze right by Boothbay on my way up. This looks like it would warrant a stop! Wow, it’s really beautiful.

Oh, I think I’m going to put camping in Acadia on my list for this summer! I’ve only been there for one-day visit so far, so looks like we’re both getting Maine travel tips out of this, haha. Yes, the botanical gardens warrant a stop for sure!
